Overview

A medium sized evergreen tree, primarily from the Channel Islands region. Great evergreen foundation plant for the garden with its bright glossy leaves. Looks good year round and grows quickly with supplemental water.

A profusion of fragrant, small white flowers arrive early to late spring. Bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects are drawn to the flowers. Red cherries in the summer follow which songbirds love. The fruits are sweet and edible but the seeds are very large.

Anecdotal Experiences

  • Pretty rapidly growing - my 5 gallon went from 2ft to 5ft in its first year
