Overview

One of the easiest herbaceous perennials, provides a vibrant pop of color during springtime. It's recommended to plant in flat areas with loamy soil that retains moisture well.³ Does well in sites with heavy soil. Wonderful plant to add to a native meadow or grassland.

Care & Maintenance

Even though it goes dormant in the summer it is more likely to survive the summer drought with occasional watering.

This plant works well as a mid-border option, especially when positioned beside an evergreen. It remains discreet during dormancy but adds vibrant color each year as it blooms.

Anecdotal Experiences

  • With 2x a month watering it browns out a little but still green

  • Consistent flowering every year, moves around the garden a little via seeds
